The Most Wanted Gift: A Dollhouse of Dreams from Little Forest Animals

Little Forest Animals

Childhood is that magical chapter when everything feels possible, and even the smallest details hold meaning. Toys are not just for play—they spark imagination, nurture creativity, and help shape the way children see the world. Yet, in today’s fast-paced, oversaturated market, finding a toy with true heart and purpose can be a challenge.

The dollhouse has always held a special place in children’s lives, offering a stage where stories, dreams, and design come together. Little Forest Animals has taken this timeless idea and elevated it into something truly extraordinary. Exquisite, sustainable, and educational, their dollhouses are more than toys—they’re heirlooms in the making, destined to be the star of any playroom.

This year, Little Forest Animals was named Winner of the Junior Style Awards 2025 in the Best Lifestyle & Toys category, and we had the pleasure of sitting down with its founder, Omer Gungordu, to hear how a father’s handmade project grew into one of the most coveted gifts around the world. Because when children’s dreams are supported, they grow into adults with the courage to turn imagination into reality.

1. Can you please introduce yourself and your brand Little Forest Animals?
I’m Omer Gungordu, born in Istanbul. Before founding Little Forest Animals, I spent many years working in finance at Deloitte, EY, JPMorgan, and Citi. I completed my studies in Sydney, Australia. At the end of the pandemic, when our son asked for a dollhouse, everything shifted.

As a father, I wanted to find him something truly special—something timeless, built to last. When I couldn’t, I thought, “Then I’ll make one myself.” What began as a gift for my son quickly grew into something bigger. We shared the house on our social media, and it drew immediate attention. At the time, we were still producing everything at home. Soon after, our products began to be sold at Turkey’s most prestigious department store, yet even then, all the production was still happening in our living rooms. Then came an email from Harrods, which became a real turning point for Little Forest Animals. It was the moment we began to believe this could be more than just a hobby.

Today, our products are available at many leading retailers across the US, UK, France, Germany, the Middle East, and Asia. Little Forest Animals is a team of six—me, Deniz, Batu, Kutay, Senem, and Burak. We are still small, but we are surrounded by family and friends who have supported us from the very beginning. The first houses were built in my parents’ home, after long nights of sanding, painting, and assembling. Without them, there would be no Little Forest Animals, and to this day they continue to help us with production. Later, we moved into Deniz’s house, which completely transformed into a workshop. That kind of support is what has shaped our brand. And I should add that no one at LFA thinks of this as just a company. Everyone feels part of the process and takes part in every step. That is why we consider ourselves so fortunate.

2. What inspired you to create a dollhouse business?
My father is an architect, and although I built my career in finance, I’ve always been drawn to design. When my son asked for a dollhouse, I thought: why not create one with architecture in mind? There are so many inspiring buildings around the world—why not bring them into a child’s playroom in miniature form? That’s how the idea of architectural dollhouses was born.

3. Could you share a bit about your background?
I graduated in Business Administration in Turkey and completed my master’s degree in Australia. From the very beginning of my career, I have worked in finance and financial consulting, and I am currently a Vice President at Citi.

4. How did the journey of Little Forest Animals begin?
Our story began with something different. During the pandemic, as working parents, we couldn’t find the right artwork for our son’s room. We ended up ordering an illustration from the UK—a long, complicated process. That experience led us to license 256 illustrations we loved from around the world and sell them framed. But once dollhouses entered our lives, we couldn’t continue both projects, and the illustrations had to be put aside.

5. What are your plans and dreams for the brand?
In September 2024, we exhibited at Maison&Objet in Paris for the first time. Those five days changed everything. We decided we didn’t want to be in Paris only for a fair, but every day of the year. In May 2025, we opened the world’s first dollhouse boutique for children, right here in Paris. Admittedly, it was a bold move—because who opens a store with just one product? ☺ But that’s exactly the point: for us, a dollhouse isn’t just a toy, it’s a universe. It’s the most timeless, emotional, and meaningful toy of all. Ask anyone—no matter their age, they can recall every detail of their dollhouse. Our dream is to one day open in New York and London, but only when the right time and place come along. Beyond this, we want to explore collaborations across many different industries. There are fashion houses whose spirit we deeply admire and whose style we feel would beautifully complement our dollhouses, and working with them is something we truly hope for. At the same time, we notice a similar trend in the global furniture market as we do in toys: too many designs are cost-driven, leaving children’s furniture overly uniform. Rooms today often feel colourless, dominated by white or natural tones. Yet when we look back at nurseries of the past, they were alive with colour, pattern, and well-crafted furniture. That is why we are preparing to reintroduce vintage-inspired, colourful designs in the future.

6. Can you walk us through the manufacturing and design process? Is the dollhouse fragile, and is it designed more as a play piece or as an interior décor object?
That’s a great question. Dollhouses usually fall into two categories. The first are decorative pieces made for adults that are not really meant to be played with. The second are those designed for children, which must be more durable and pass strict safety tests. At Little Forest Animals, we could easily create detailed decorative houses and that part is simple. The real challenge is designing houses sturdy enough for children to play with while also meeting international certifications. None of our models use nails or screws and making a house of this scale stand strong without them took years of research and development. In our studio in Istanbul, we manage the entire process from raw wood to the finished packaged product. We work with traditional methods, without machines, and every piece is handmade. We are always developing new models, but only when we feel completely satisfied with them, and that, honestly, can be the hardest part. ☺

7. Why did you choose to work in the children’s lifestyle industry?
Little Forest Animals is proof that the best ideas often come from need. We saw that many companies were producing in the same factories in the Far East, and a product as special as a dollhouse was becoming standardized, losing its soul. As a father, that made me feel my son deserved something better—something lasting that could be passed down. We never began with the idea of entering the children’s sector; it simply grew from that instinct. Today we are a small team of six, each with different backgrounds, and every model we design reflects the spirit we share at that moment. Everyone has a hand in it. Last summer, for instance, we were working so intensely that we couldn’t take a proper holiday, and we found ourselves longing for summer. We pictured ourselves in a Palm Beach house, swimming and soaking up the sun, and that daydream became the House of Palm Beach. It came to life through all our ideas and the needs we were each feeling at the time.

8. Your dollhouses are truly dream houses. Do you believe aesthetics are important for children? If yes, why?
Our starting point was never about giving children many toys but about giving them fewer that are truly special pieces that are well-designed, aesthetic, and made to last. Unfortunately, the market is full of toys that are overly colourful, loud, and lacking in design quality. Perhaps children choose them simply because that is what is offered to them. We wanted to take a different path, creating toys in softer, pastel tones with thoughtful design. When children look at our dollhouses, we want them to say, “This feels like Parisian architecture,” or “That one looks English.” By giving them this awareness early on, they begin to play with a new level of understanding. That is why every crate we send includes the story of the house inside, so the child knows the world they are stepping into.

9. Although you are a young brand, your houses are already highly desired in the market. What do you attribute your success to?
We didn’t actually work very hard on promotion. In fact, we have done almost no advertising at all. From the beginning, our thought was simple: there is no need to reinvent the wheel. Throughout history, extraordinary dollhouses have been created and cherished across generations. What we wanted was not cost-driven production—the disease of our times—but models built around quality. We believed there must be people searching for that same focus on quality, and indeed there were. That realization has made us very happy. We have only been in this field for two and a half years, but the interest we have received has been a constant source of motivation.

10. What advice would you give to someone just starting a business in children’s fashion or lifestyle?
Our advice would be this: don’t do something just to make money, do it to create something meaningful. Love the work you do, be proud of it, and only then share it with others. If you treat your work like your child—caring for it, fixing its flaws, and nurturing it—you’ll find all the answers you need in the way people respond. And finally, there is never a need to repeat what has already been done. Whatever you choose to create, it is always possible to make it different. Be unique.

11. What message does your brand aim to share?
It may sound like a cliché today, but what we truly aim to create are products that carry emotions and memories. The children who play with our houses are between the ages of one and nine, yet when they are seventy or eighty, they will still remember those houses. They will be taken back to their past. Our goal in this age of technology is to draw children away from screens and into the timeless world of handmade dollhouses.

12. What inspires you personally and creatively?
My son is my greatest source of inspiration. As our brand grows, he grows alongside it, and his interests are constantly changing. At first, he wanted a house so his animal figures wouldn’t get wet; now he wants us to build a football stadium. No matter how creative we try to be, we can never think as freely as children do, and we love these unexpected turns. It is incredible to see a child invent a completely different game with our houses; in ways we never imagined. We can spend months working day and night on a model, and then a child looks at it and offers an idea or a critique none of us could have thought of.

13. What is your favorite place in the world?
I grew up in Istanbul, a city where civilizations overlap and intertwine. Later, I spent time in Alaska and Alabama, experiencing two very different sides of American culture, and then lived for three and a half years in Sydney, one of the most delightful cities in the world. I’ve had the chance to see nearly fifty countries, and I’ve realized that where I feel happiest has always been tied to my state of mind. There was a time when being in Bali, before it became so popular, made me incredibly happy; Australia was perfect for my student years; and Europe began to feel more fulfilling after I turned thirty-five.

14. What is your favorite building in the world, and why?
This is a difficult question to answer. I believe a building becomes unique when it is united with the story behind it. It doesn’t need to be as monumental as the Taj Mahal, built with immense wealth, or as ancient and labour-intensive as the Pyramids. What matters to me are the stories that belong to these structures. I love listening to them, researching them, and I have been deeply moved by so many.

15. What role does storytelling or imagination play in your creations?
That’s another wonderful question. As I mentioned earlier, when we design a model, we do so as adults in our thirties and forties, but children don’t always see things the same way. For example, during photoshoots we arrange the furniture in the rooms according to our own sense of order. Then a child comes along and says, “No, it wouldn’t be like this,” and rearranges everything, creating their own connection with the house. We love that moment because it teaches us to see from a perspective we had overlooked.
We also receive countless messages from parents who tell us their children wake up each morning and set breakfast for their dolls or tuck them in at night before going to bed themselves. For us, that is an extraordinary feeling.
We once created a model called the House of Stockholm, and it came entirely from a child who loved horses and asked, “Can this horse also live in our house?” Sometimes there are physical limitations in real life, but in the world of play nothing is impossible. That’s exactly why we love it so much.

16. Do you think toys and interior pieces like dollhouses can influence children’s sense of style and creativity?
Yes, absolutely. Every dollhouse we create is designed with architecture and design references, so children absorb these aesthetics naturally. They don’t just play; they begin to recognize styles, proportions, and cultural influences. This shapes their awareness of design and sparks creativity in the way they reimagine spaces.

17. What has been the most rewarding moment so far on your journey with Little Forest Animals?
Today, our houses can be found in Bergdorf Goodman, Harrods, Bloomingdale’s, Nordstrom, Beymen, Ounass, Printemps, Lodenfrey, El Corte Inglés, and many other leading stores around the world. But I think the most unforgettable moment for us was when we had only three models and received an email from Harrods saying, “We would like to carry your products.” Until that day, we were still a small local brand producing in our own home. That was the moment we truly felt our work had reached an international level.

Little Forest Animals dollhouse

18. If you could collaborate with any designer, artist, or brand, who would it be and why?
Another great question. Personally, we find so much inspiration in reading brand stories and learning about the people who give those brands their soul. One of the figures who has inspired us most recently is Jonathan Anderson. What he has achieved with Loewe is extraordinary, and now at Dior he continues to weave references to its heritage into something fresh and modern. His creativity is something we truly admire.
We also deeply respect Cordelia de Castellane, who has been creating beautiful work with Dior for many years, and it would be a dream to collaborate with the house one day. And then there is Simon Porte Jacquemus, who built his brand from scratch and consistently grounds his designs in the colours and landscapes of the place he grew up. To us, that is the essence of authentic storytelling.
What we love most are creations that are instantly recognizable, even without a logo—when you can sense who made them just by their spirit. Whether it is the timeless patterns used by Cordelia de Castellane or Jonathan Anderson’s inventive ideas, they both achieve that quality. With Little Forest Animals, we hope for the same: that when someone sees a dollhouse or a piece of furniture, they will say, “That must be Little Forest Animals.” It is precisely for this reason that our products carry no logo at all.

handmade dollhouse

19. How do you see the balance between sustainability, quality, and design in your work?
Whatever material you look at, nature has already given us the finest version—wood, stone, diamond, steel. Humanity may create imitations, but they can never truly replace what is natural. For that reason, we choose to craft all our products from wood and never use plastic. Our designs are conceived to live in harmony with this material, and we are certain that if we had produced them in plastic instead, our brand would never have resonated in the same way.

20. Finally, what do you like about Junior Style?
Junior Style has been important to us because it is our primary source for following developments in the children’s design world. We’ve discovered many brands through your magazine, and we’ve also had the pleasure of being featured. Reading those stories lets us follow other brands’ journeys and draw inspiration from their designs. The annual “Best of the Year” selection is always a highlight for us, too. We’re deeply grateful to your whole team for their hard work—thank you, and long may you continue.

Meet Emma and her mom, Dania—a creative fashion enthusiast whose closet never fails to inspire us. Their blog isn’t about chasing numbers, but about building a safe community of like-minded people and creating a shared space to bond through fashion and creativity. On our recent visit to New York, we joined them in Central Park for a playful afternoon of dress-up, capturing favorite looks in between feeding the geese, feeling the fountain’s breeze, and soaking in the vibrant energy of people-watching. Between laughter and snapshots, our conversation turned to children’s fashion, the value of self-presentation, the art of cultivating personal style, and the sweet childhood memories that give it all meaning.

A Conversation on Style, Motherhood & Magic Moments: Meet Emma and Her Mom Dania.

Can you start by telling us a little about yourself and your daughter, Emma?
I’m a proud mom of two, and Emma is my firstborn and only daughter. Ever since I can remember, I’ve been passionate about fashion—and becoming a mother was always my greatest dream. When Emma was born, everything aligned: motherhood, fashion, and my love for photography came together in the most natural way. It felt like destiny.

What inspired you to start your blog and share your family’s style journey?
What started as a sweet hobby—sharing moments with friends and family—blossomed into a beautiful and supportive community. The more content I shared, the more meaningful connections we formed.

Emma’s joy in front of the camera and her excitement every time she got to wear something new was truly magical. Her enthusiasm became my biggest inspiration. Along the way, we’ve made lifelong friendships and experienced wonderful opportunities that have deeply enriched our lives. I’m excited to see how it continues to evolve—especially as Emma begins to take the reins herself one day.

What is Emma like? What are her dreams, passions, or hobbies?
Emma is a kind soul with a strong spirit. She’s assertive, confident, and incredibly caring—especially when it comes to her younger brother, Liam. They have a very close bond, and it warms my heart to watch their friendship grow.

She’s playful and imaginative, but also surprisingly driven—she loves running laps in our yard and challenging herself to do better each time.
Her dreams are as vibrant as her personality: she wants to be a mom, a model, a veterinarian, and dreams of traveling the world.
Emma loves drawing, singing, playing with her dolls, and spending time outdoors.

Gucci Kids

Emma is always so stylish—how do you approach shopping for her wardrobe?
I stay connected with my favorite brands, always looking out for collections that reflect both beauty and comfort. When choosing pieces, I think about whether Emma will love them and if she’ll feel comfortable wearing them.

Our style leans toward timeless, classic, and elegant pieces in soft, refined palettes that feel both sophisticated and age-appropriate.

Do you plan her outfits in advance, or is it more spontaneous?
For holidays and special occasions, I often plan ahead, gathering inspiration and watching for new releases. But sometimes I’ll spot a piece and instantly know it’s “so Emma”—and we’ll style around it spontaneously. It’s a blend of planning and intuition.

Gucci Kids junior style

What are some of your favorite children’s fashion brands?

  • Mourenne: Their designs are straight out of a fairytale. They’ve brought my fashion dreams to life.

  • Charlotte sy Dimby: A truly special brand for us. Emma has worn their French hand-smocked dresses for years, especially during Christmas. Each dress tells a story and has become part of our family tradition.

  • Janie and Jack: One of the first brands Emma wore, and it holds nostalgic value—it reminds me of where our journey began.

Why is dressing up your kids important to you?
It’s a form of creative expression, a bonding experience, and a way to teach Emma about presentation and self-care. For us, fashion isn’t about labels or price tags—it’s about intention, imagination, and respect for craft. I want Emma to understand that dressing well is an extension of how we show up in the world, and a reflection of who we are.

Does the wardrobe we see online reflect her real life?
Absolutely. While some looks are styled for content, Emma wears many of her outfits for real-life events—family outings, holidays, or special gatherings. And just as importantly, she has clothing that’s perfect for the playground too. I believe fashion fits into every part of life—it’s just about choosing the right outfit for each moment.

Childhood in style

Some people say kids should be free to get messy without worrying about clothes. What’s your view?
I completely agree—kids should have the freedom to play and explore. My philosophy is that there’s an outfit for everything. Muddy adventures? We have the perfect outfit for that. Style and freedom can go hand in hand.

What does style mean to Emma?
To Emma, dressing up makes her feel like a princess. That feeling of joy and confidence is priceless. She truly loves expressing herself through fashion.

Do you teach her to care for her clothes?
Yes, but always with love and appreciation, never restriction. I want her to understand the value behind each piece—the thought, effort, and craftsmanship that goes into making it. At nine, she’s already mindful and knows which pieces require extra care. It’s wonderful to see that awareness grow naturally in her.

childhood in style

What does fashion mean to you as a mother and content creator?
As a mother, fashion has been a way to bring my dreams to life and bond with my children. As a content creator, it’s opened doors to a warm and inspiring community. I’ve had the joy of collaborating with brands, meeting creative teams, and supporting small businesses whose work I admire deeply.

Has Emma started to develop her own sense of style?
Definitely! She has a say in her wardrobe. I always ask for her input when making purchases, and if she doesn’t love something, she knows we can return or exchange it. Her voice matters—and I want her to feel confident expressing her taste.

mourenne

How do you balance fashion with practicality for Emma’s daily routine?
It all comes down to dressing for the occasion. Whether we’re heading to a party, the park, or a family dinner, we aim to match fashion with function—comfort is never sacrificed.

Do you have any smart shopping tips for dressing kids stylishly on a budget?
Plan ahead! It allows time to hunt for deals and choose pieces that mix well across outfits. I also invest in timeless staples that last in both quality and style.

How do you stay organized with her wardrobe?
I rotate by season—keeping the current pieces accessible and storing off-season items in secondary closets. With a wardrobe like Emma’s, organization is key!

New York kids fashion editorial

Where do you find inspiration for styling Emma?
Mostly from brand campaigns and runway looks. Then we add our personal twist to make it feel uniquely Emma. It’s about reimagining inspiration into something intimate and expressive.

Have you collaborated with brands? What makes a partnership meaningful?
Yes, and I feel very grateful for that. A meaningful partnership values the child’s experience just as much as the product. I love working with brands that share that perspective.

Emma Evalynn

Is there one outfit you’ll never forget?
Yes—the Mourenne “Tea Dress.” When it arrived, it felt like receiving a treasure. Emma still calls it her favorite of all time and says it makes her feel like a true princess.

Do you keep Emma’s clothes as keepsakes or pass them on?
A little of both. I save the most sentimental pieces for the future—maybe Emma will want to share them with her children. Others I resell or pass on to friends and family so they can continue bringing joy.

Any fashion rules you live by? Or ones you love to break?
My rule: Wear what you love.
And the motto I remind Emma of often: Your best accessory is your kindness. It never goes out of style.

Gucci kids Louis Vuitton

If Emma wanted to explore a completely different style one day, how would you react?
I’d support her wholeheartedly. Watching her evolve is part of the journey. I’ll always treasure our shared memories, but I’m equally excited to see her embrace her own path.

What do you hope Emma learns from growing up in a creative, fashion-forward home?
I hope she learns that self-expression is powerful, and style is just one beautiful way to share who she is. I want her to appreciate the artistry behind fashion, to celebrate her individuality, and to carry forward the confidence, creativity, and joy that this journey has given us.

What do you love the most about Junior Style?

Junior Style feels like a celebration of childhood creativity and the joy of fashion-all in one vibrant space. What I admire most is how it blends inspiration with authenticity, showcasing not just beautiful styles but the real stories behind them. The platform has introduced us to a community of likeminded families and designers who share our passion for timeless, expressive clothing.
For Emma and me, it’s been a wonderful opportunity to connect with others who believe fashion can be both playful and meaningful. Whether it’s discovering new brands, seeing how other kids interpret trends, or simply enjoying the artistry of the photography, Junior Style reminds us that children’s fashion is about imagination, confidence, and the magic of dressing up-just as much as it is about the clothes themselves.

CHILDREN’S SHOW SUMMER 2025 edition.

Mark your calendars: the Children’s Show makes its return on July 27–28, 2025, taking over Chelsea Industrial in New York City for its highly anticipated fourth edition. Produced by FB International and organized by IEG USA, the show has quickly risen to become a must-attend event on the international kidswear calendar—uniting top-tier children’s fashion brands with influential buyers, editors, and creatives for a high-impact, beautifully curated experience.

Set in the heart of Manhattan’s gallery and exhibition district, Chelsea Industrial offers an inviting, ground-level venue that’s both spacious and intimate—ideal for exploring the latest collections in a design-forward, industrial-chic atmosphere. This summer’s show will spotlight 60 standout brands from the United States, Italy, France, Portugal, Australia, the United Kingdom, Spain, Brazil, Canada, Sweden, Denmark, and Germany.

At the center of this movement is Virginia Zingone, the powerhouse founder of the Children’s Show and a visionary with a long-standing legacy in kidswear. Born into a family deeply rooted in children’s fashion, Virginia grew up immersed in the business before taking on leadership roles that would define her international career.

She rose to prominence as the Imports Manager and Partner at Carter’s & OshKosh Italia, where she introduced American staples to the Italian market with great success. Later, she launched her own eponymous label—Zingone—solidifying her role as a creative and strategic force in the industry.

But it was the founding of Italian Kids Brands, the very first New York-based showroom exclusively for Italian children’s fashion, that laid the groundwork for her most ambitious project yet: the Children’s Show. With this event, Virginia created a space that is not just about aesthetics, but about meaningful business outcomes, long-term brand growth, and community.

Being part of the Children’s Show is like joining an exclusive community where your brand is truly valued and supported,” she explains.

Today, Virginia continues to work closely with international partners, press, and emerging designers to nurture talent and push boundaries—ensuring the Children’s Show remains a powerful bridge between creativity and commerce.

One of the key highlights of the Children’s Show—and a favorite among buyers, press, the creative team, and kids themselves—is the Kids’ Fashion Runway, directed by renowned creative director Aleksandra Ataca. This captivating show will unveil Spring/Summer 2026 collections, brought to life by 40 talented young models from around the globe. Expect fresh silhouettes, playful statements, and inspired takes on the season’s biggest trends—all part of a runway that champions global kids’ fashion with heart and flair.

Complementing the runway is a robust lineup of industry panels, interactive workshops, and VIP networking events, carefully curated to foster innovation, encourage connection, and cultivate community across every corner of the children’s fashion world.

Beyond its stunning visual presentation, the Children’s Show is a strategic powerhouse. The event features a personalized matchmaking program via the TwoToTango networking platform, enabling exhibitors to create brand profiles, pre-book targeted meetings, and connect with key buyers and press—ensuring a strong return on investment before the doors even open.

An Exclusive Interview with Dina Moon, Head of Buying at Childrensalon.

Childrensalon, winner of the Junior Style Award for Best Kids’ Retailer, is a shining example of excellence in children’s fashion. With a deep commitment to dressing children beautifully and nurturing aesthetic education, Childrensalon has become a trusted name for families around the world.

Behind this success is a dedicated team of professionals, with Dina Moon, as head of buying, playing a pivotal role in shaping what children will wear next season. Her keen eye for detail and passion for celebrating childhood through fashion make her an integral part of the brand’s ongoing journey.

In this exclusive interview, Dina shares how Childrensalon discovers trends, stays connected with its customers, and continues to set the standard for quality and creativity in kids’ fashion. From the highlights of Fall/Winter 2024 to timeless festive-season must-haves, Dina offers a glimpse into the artistry and care behind one of the world’s most beloved children’s retailers.

Childrensalon

How do you discover and stay ahead of new trends in kids’ fashion?
For me, it’s a continuously evolving process. Childrensalon has been dressing children beautifully for over 70 years, and over time, the way we buy has evolved, but some core elements remain relevant. We are lucky to have longstanding partnerships with many of our brands. For our buying team, the traditional cycle of traveling and visiting brands in their showrooms or at trade shows, still provides opportunities for inspiration and collaboration with our community of designers. These events are also where we spot many new trends and emerging design talent. Many of our team members are parents, and their lived experiences, combined with engaging and connecting on social media, open up whole new avenues of inspiration for us. One of our greatest resources, though, has to be our customers. After all, if we don’t buy what they like, we will know about it! We are fortunate to have great relationships with them, and we often hear directly or through our customer service and personal shopping teams what trends and brands they most want to see from us. This feedback is vital to our buying process.

What are the biggest trends you’re seeing for Fall/Winter 2024?
It has been a great season for our brands. Where do I start? There was a lot of focus on standout details—bows, sequins, sparkles—and plenty of references to Coco Chanel’s iconic style with different takes on tweed twinsets for little girls. Dressing children beautifully is a key part of our heritage, dating back to when our founder, Sybil Harriman, first opened her shop in 1952. These special pieces continue to resonate with our customers. We also saw many of our designers experimenting with neutral palettes, textures, and softness, with sherpa and suede featured in different collections. I think comfort and calm were two significant influences on designers this season. We all need some of that at the moment! Sibling dressing is also a focal point—many parents love to match their family looks, and we have dedicated a whole section of our site to “Style for Siblings” to help customers coordinate with ease.

Childrensalon

In your opinion, what sets Childrensalon apart from other retailers? What do you believe is the key to its success?
It’s hard to sum up in one sentence, but ultimately, I think it comes down to “care.” We care about beautiful, high-quality clothing that not only looks good but feels good for children to wear and have fun in, and can be handed down as they grow. We care about honoring heritage—both our own and the traditional art of making children’s clothing, using techniques such as hand-smocking. These classic collections form a key part of our offering. We also care about helping our customers through every milestone in their children’s lives—from birth and first steps to school and teenage years. Our buy is carefully selected to offer a wide range of brands and price points to suit every family, accompanied by dedicated customer service every step of the way.

What drew you to work in kids’ fashion, and what keeps you passionate about it?
Earlier in my career, I worked in women’s fashion and thought I would end up as a womenswear buyer. One day, after helping in the childrenswear department when they were short-staffed, I fell in love with the happiness of the shoppers and the occasions they were shopping for. Seeing new mums and dads, grandmas, aunties, and uncles was just so lovely, and I loved helping them find that special gift. The rest is history! Later, when I had my own children, my job took on an even deeper meaning. This is what keeps me feeling passionate about it.

Childrensalon

With the rise of digital tools, how do you view the role of in-person events like trade shows, fashion shows, and presentations? Are they still important to you?
Absolutely. Nothing beats sitting with real humans and experiencing the collection. Seeing the cut and feel of the fabrics up close isn’t something that can be replicated digitally (yet!). That said, the changes brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic have been positive additions. It’s great that we can view products online and have video calls with our brands to maintain close working relationships. These tools also help reduce travel commitments and lower our carbon footprint.

What are the must-haves for young fashionistas this year for the festive season?
At Childrensalon, we take the festive season very seriously. We are less about “fashion” and more about dressing children beautifully, so we put a lot of thought and care into ensuring every item we sell is of the highest quality. I do love a Christmas jumper, as well as the amazing party dresses and sparkly shoes available at this time of year. Customers know they can come to us for their special pieces, Christmas pajamas, matching sibling styles, and more. Our beautiful seasonal selection is bound to have something to please them and their little ones.

Childrensalon

What are your thoughts on Junior Style and its role in the kids’ fashion landscape?
I love that it brings together a vibrant global community of people passionate about childhood and kids’ clothing. I enjoy learning about others’ perspectives, and I think that shining a light on this often-overlooked (but highly creative) sector of the industry is vital for keeping us connected.

Luca Manfredi ’s photography speaks volumes, effortlessly blending storytelling with the elegance of fashion. His work, particularly in children’s fashion, captures kids as they are—innocent yet glamorous, playful yet poised. Each frame seems meticulously crafted, yet his images feel light and spontaneous, evoking the timeless allure of glossy magazines from a golden era. As the winner of the Junior Style Awards for Best Kids Fashion Photographer, Luca has shot campaigns for many top children’s fashion brands, solidifying his reputation in the industry. His deep respect for children and his ability to celebrate the essence of childhood are reflected in both his art and work ethic. In this interview, Luca opens up about his inspiration and how he became a sought-after photographer in the world of children’s fashion.

Please, tell us your story!

I was born in a community in Tuscany, where the adults’ passion was to document everything that happened within the community through photos and short films.

I alternated school in the woods and nature with the magic of the darkroom of photography. At the age of twenty I started as an assistant of famous fashion photographers of the 80s.

At thirty I began to create my first photographic services, mainly for women and men.

How did you get into kids fashion photography?

I was contacted for an editorial by a magazine dedicated to children towards the end of the 90s.

Do you enjoy working with kids? Why?

I have so much fun working with children. However, I want the atmosphere in the studio or on location to become a game, a light and polite harmony. This is due respect because they are children and it must be a nice day for them to remember. The children I work with are clouds, clouds to lighten, to blow and to let go.

Your pictures strike a balance between glamour and kid friendly scenarios. How do you achieve this?

I’m basically an esthete. It really depends on the clothes I have to photograph. I base myself on locations that are consistent with the looks or I contextualize them in totally opposite locations, helping me with the irony and expressions of our little actors. Obviously before deciding I have a long dialogue mainly with the fashion stylist and the art director and then with the rest of my crew.

What’s your favorite project and why?

I think that ‘Piano Lessons’ made in South Africa was truly exciting to complete. Having been lucky enough, thanks to the magazine, to have an entire week to build it was fundamental. And then my book on the Pavee Kids, a reportage I created in the world of Irish Travelers, focusing above all on children. In their sentences I understood the importance of their truly being children who grew up perhaps too quickly.

What advice would you give to someone wanting to pursue a career in kids fashion photography?

I believe that a photographer who wants to approach children’s fashion photography must first of all be able to see the child within himself, the imagination within him and so everything becomes complicity during the shooting. But the essential thing is to immediately understand what type of child you have in front of you, whether he is hyperactive, introverted, curious or shy.

Where do you draw your inspiration from?

It depends on whether I have to create a press campaign or an editorial. Cinema in any case is my favorite main inspiration. I watch a lot of films and love directors like Truffaut, Sean Baker and Comencini.

Which photographer from the past do you admire?

Peggy Dirotta absolutely. I was anxiously awaiting the release of Vogue Bambini for her truly wonderful editorials. Tim Walker because it is true elegance transported by his brilliant imagination. Stefan Goundry because he’s a grown up kid and I love his old shorts.

What’s your dream project?

Write a screenplay for a film.

What’s your favorite place in the world?

I absolutely love Africa, because it makes me feel nature. there once a child said to me ‘take off your shoes. In Africa you have to feel the earth with your feet.

Do you aim to convey a specific message through your art? And why?

In my career as a photographer’s assistant and then as a freelancer, I deduced that art is not sold but given as a gift. My photos are mainly a reflection of myself and this for me is art.

What do you like about Junior Style?

I love your energy, the stimulus, the enthusiasm in creating new projects. The topics dedicated to our children who will rightly grow up one day.

John Richmond is a true fashion icon whose influence spans decades and who truly needs no introduction. Born in Manchester, Richmond’s journey took him from his hometown to London, and eventually to Milan, where he pursued his dream of becoming a fashion designer. He quickly made a name for himself by launching his own collection and collaborating with renowned brands. By 1987, Richmond had established his namesake brand, offering three lines: John Richmond, Richmond X, and Richmond Denim. His iconic “Destroy” range became highly collectible in the 1990s, and his deep ties to the rock music industry led him to dress some of the biggest stars, including Madonna, David Bowie, Mick Jagger, and Lady Gaga. In 2007, Richmond expanded into children’s fashion, blending his signature rock-and-roll style with playful, youthful designs. We had the honor of sitting down with John Richmond to discuss his incredible journey, his inspirations, and the exciting work he’s doing in kids’ fashion today.

John Richmond

JS: Can you tell us a bit about your journey in fashion and what led you to add a kids’ line to your portfolio?
JR: My first venture into kids was many years ago when my own children were born. I would make leather jackets for them or special pieces. Many friends then started asking if I would do the same for their kids. The first full collection for kids was around 2007. It was easy and a lot of fun to take the JR style and put it into a kids’ collection.

JS: What inspired you to create a kids’ collection? Were there specific experiences or influences?
JR: It seemed a natural progression to venture into making a kids’ collection. I always had my own kids as reference points.

JS: How does designing for children differ from designing for adults? What are some unique challenges and joys you’ve encountered?
JR: Designing is the same process whether it’s adults or children—you have to create something interesting, desirable, and relevant. The photoshoots with kids are always a lot of fun because you can play a lot more.

JS: Can you walk us through your design process for the kids’ collection?
JR: Designing the kids’ collection is done on the back of the adult collection. Iconic pieces, new seasonal shapes, and prints are all used in some form. You can play a lot more with scale in kids’ designs, although there are different needs and requirements.

John Richmond Kids

JS: How does your kids’ collection reflect your signature style from your adult fashion line? Are there elements that carry over or are reinterpreted for a younger audience?
JR: I use the same inspiration that I gather for the adult collection but can play with it more. I knew what my own kids wanted to wear, and I would often use them in the advertising.

JS: What are some standout pieces from the collection that you’re particularly excited about? Why?
JR: Lots of parents tell me that their kids’ favorite piece of clothing is JR. It’s a nice feeling to know that someone loves what you do, especially children, as they are not influenced by what they’ve read or are told.

JS: How do you keep updated with trends for the younger generation to make your collection appealing?
JR: There isn’t a big gap between adult trends and kids’ trends. Kids are so up-to-date with what’s going on now. Social media makes it so that if anything is trendy, everyone knows about it immediately. I also have a 13-year-old boy, so I’m very aware of what he and his friends are into. Social media has made it very easy to keep up to date, but it has also created a lot more work for me. However, it’s important to have communication and connection with those that have an interest in JOHN RICHMOND Kids.

John Richmond Kids

JS: What advice would you give to young designers who are seeking their way into the fashion industry?
JR: The only advice I would give anyone going into any industry is to do what your heart tells you. If you are in your element in what you do, it’s not work—it’s love.

JS: To what do you attribute your success?
JR: Obviously, hard work has always been an important element, but I love what I do, and this is what has probably driven everything. And a little bit of luck—right place, right time.

JS: Who is your fashion icon, past or present?
JR: The first album I bought was David Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust. Like many of my generation, he was like a god that we followed. I was inspired by his style, music, attitude, and constant evolution. He is without a doubt my fashion icon

John Richmond Kids

JS: What is your favorite place in the world?
JR: There are so many favorite places—an impossible question. The first time I went to London when I was 12 or the first time I went to New York were special and impressive moments.

JS: What do you think about Junior Style?
JR: It’s always interesting to see how kids take style and make it their own. Junior Style has a big community of people who are genuinely interested in kids’ fashion, and it’s great to see such engagement and passion in the industry.

Molo is a brand that needs no introduction—recently honored with the Best Kids Fashion Heritage Brand award at the Junior Style Awards, it has long been a beloved favorite in children’s fashion. Renowned for its unique prints, exceptional quality, and effortlessly cool style, Molo consistently delivers standout pieces that captivate both children and parents alike. Each item is thoughtfully designed to blend comfort with cutting-edge fashion, making Molo the go-to choice for those who want their kids to look and feel fantastic. We had the honor of sitting down with Mogens Jepsen, the founder of Molo, to discuss the brand’s past and future, the children’s fashion industry, and some of his cherished childhood memories. Whether you’re new to Molo or a long-time fan, this conversation offers a fascinating glimpse into the creativity and vision behind the brand.

Mogens Jepsen molo founder

JS: Thank you, Mogens, for taking the time to speak with us! Can you share your journey with us? How did you begin designing clothing specifically for children, and what inspired you to focus on this niche?

MJ: Molo started with the idea of changing children’s fashion, which was less than vibrant and colourful back then. Instead, the idea was to create a brand with a strong personality, many colours, and a playful expression.

Molo was created in an apartment in Copenhagen, with a small team doing everything.  Initially, we designed only a small collection for ages 2 to 8, and then we expanded the range to include garments for babies, accessories, outerwear, and swimwear covering up to 16 years. The marketplace has also changed enormously. Molo started with a few markets worldwide and is now an internationally known kidswear brand.

JS: Molo is a standout name in the children’s fashion industry—what do you believe sets the brand apart and contributes to its enduring success?

MJ: Since the beginning, Molo has had a strong storytelling and brand vision. We believe that children come first, and our clothes have always reflected this. I think our mission to empower children in a responsible and playful way really speaks to both parents and children.

From early on in our brand history, we have also been focused on the importance of transparency and certification when it comes to responsibility, which I believe has made us stand out in the market. I am incredibly proud that Molo is now GOTS*, GRS*, and OCS* certified.

JS: What are some unique challenges and joys you’ve encountered in working with children’s fashion?

MJ: As Molo has grown over the years, one thing that stands out as both a challenge and a joy is incorporating different cultures and climates into our brand. We work hard to ensure that Molo is a brand kids love to wear and explore wherever they live.

JS: Could you tell us about a favourite piece from new collection? (SS25)

MJ: Having the platform and brand that we do, we take the job of speaking to children very seriously. That is why we put a lot of care and attention into our storytelling and the message we send out worldwide. With the new collection ‘You Matter,’ we tell children their voices and actions matter. Naturally, this makes our new cardigans, Burt and Gilly, some of my favourites from the collection. The cardigans are decorated with important messages like ‘courage,’ ‘equality,’ ‘diversity’, and ‘you matter.’ True statement pieces.

molo

JS: How would you describe your personal style, and does it influence the brand?

MJ: At Molo, we have an incredibly talented design studio with amazing designers working hard to continue creating the ‘best collection ever’ each season. As much as I am involved in the collections, I don’t think my personal style significantly impacts their work.

JS: What is your favorite place in the world?

MJ: At our headquarters in Copenhagen, but if I could choose more than one place, I love traveling the world with Molo. I am so fortunate to meet our amazing sales representatives, new customers, and new markets worldwide.

JS: What is your favorite childhood memory?

MJ: I am privileged to have grown up on a farm. It was a fantastic upbringing with the opportunity to often be close to my parents, lots of animals and the nature around us. When I encounter the wonderful smell of freshly cut grass from the meadows in the summer, it gives me a unique flash back to my childhood. It’s magical.

JS: Horses often feature in your collections—is there a personal story behind this recurring motif?

MJ: From raising my kids, I have experienced their love for all animals, so naturally, the animal kingdom is a big part of all Molo collections. Horses are magnificent creatures, highly intelligent, very social, and just so beautiful, and I love seeing them featured in our collections. They fit right in.

JS: As someone with a successful brand, what advice would you give to young entrepreneurs aspiring to enter the children’s fashion industry?

MJ: The business has changed so much since we started. What I have experienced as essential is being mindful, respectful, agile, and constantly open to change.

JS: Looking ahead, where do you see Molo in the next five years? Are there any exciting projects or developments on the horizon?

MJ: I am incredibly excited about the adventures that Molo will embark upon in the next couple of years. We are looking to expand globally and work constantly to improve and evolve our responsible practices.

JS: How do you envision the future of the retail and fashion market, particularly in light of recent trends and changes?

MJ: Despite having to repeat myself, I believe that retail and fashion brands need to work on ways to improve themselves in terms of responsibility. It is necessary to make it in this industry, and I believe we owe it to future generations.

molo

JS: Do you see social media as a source of love, hate, or a mix of both?

MJ: Social media can foster both hate and, fortunately, much love. At Molo, we have been blessed with a solid and supportive community of people who truly support and love our brand.

JS: Finally, what do you think about Junior Style?

MJ: Junior Style has been on the frontier of creating a community for kidswear fashion enthusiasts. I enjoy following your take on innovative and kidswear and being a part of your lovely network. The way you encourage playfulness and colours makes Junior Style a perfect match for Molo.

Jessica Balocchi

Cuore Baby is more than just a label—it’s a labor of love. Founded in 2015 by visionary designer Jessica Balocchi, the brand redefines baby clothing by blending timeless beauty with impeccable craftsmanship. Jessica transformed her passion for high fashion into a brand that reflects a commitment to quality, sustainability, and the unique charm inspired by the innocence of childhood. From its origins in Valencia to its blossoming presence in Florida and beyond, Cuore Baby continues to captivate with its dedication to creating meaningful garments. We sit down with Jessica Balocchi to explore the story behind Cuore Baby, her inspirations, and the vision that drives her to create garments as beautiful as they are heartfelt. Join us as we delve into the world of Cuore Baby, where every stitch tells a story, and every garment is crafted with love.

1. Tell us a little about yourself and your brand, Cuore Baby. I founded Cuore Baby in 2015 in my hometown of Valencia, where my atelier still operates, even though I moved to Florida in 2019. I continue to design all the collections myself. My journey began when I graduated from high school at 16 and moved to Spain to study at MBA Business School. After earning the best project award there, I completed my final year at Northumbria University in England, where I received a BA Hons in Business and was honored with the highest grades at graduation. I then pursued a Master’s in Marketing at the European School of Economics in Florence, graduating at the top of my class.

While my studies focused on business and marketing, my work experience has always been deeply rooted in fashion. In Spain, I owned a high-end boutique called Balocchi, which is my last name. We featured brands like Dolce & Gabbana, La Perla, and Swarovski, among others. During my time in Italy, I interned at Conte of Florence, one of the oldest and most respected fashion brands in Florence, where I presented collections to foreign agents and Italian stores. Following this rich experience, I founded Cuore Baby, my “atelier of dreams,” which remains my happy place to this day.

2. Tell us about Cuore Baby. What sets it apart in the world of kids’ fashion? Cuore Baby is all about heart—literally, as “Cuore” means “heart” in Italian. Every piece we create is handmade in our atelier, with a focus on the baby’s safety and comfort. From using natural fabrics to ensuring labels don’t touch the skin, every detail is considered. Our pieces often feature hand-sewn laces or embroidered crystals, making each garment unique. We started with christening gowns and now offer outfits for boys and girls up to size 7 years. We are also committed to sustainability, with a zero-waste policy and recycled paper for all our patterns.

3. How did Cuore Baby come to life? What inspired you to start this journey? The idea for Cuore Baby came before I even became a mom. I’ve always found children, especially babies, to be the purest and cutest beings. They inspire me to create designs that reflect their innocence and charm. My atelier, which I lovingly call “the atelier of dreams,” is where I channel this inspiration into reality. It’s my happy place, where every design is born from a place of peace and joy.

4. Where do you usually source your design inspiration? Are there specific themes or elements that consistently influence your creations? Are there unique challenges or joys in working with children’s fashion? My inspiration comes when I am at peace, both in my heart and mind. I find that children themselves are the greatest source of inspiration. Their purity, joy, and the way they see the world motivate me to create designs that are just as innocent and beautiful as they are. I aim to capture that sense of wonder in every piece I create. Designing for children is the best part of what I do. Children are the reason I started Cuore Baby. There’s nothing better than seeing them in my creations—pure joy, and the best models, clients, and inspirations one could ask for. Working with children’s fashion comes with its challenges, like ensuring comfort and safety, but the rewards far outweigh them. I feel incredibly lucky to do what I love for the most special little people.

cuore baby

6. Can you tell us about a favorite piece from your brand? My favorite creations are my daughters’ christening gowns. Each is unique and was made entirely by hand, with fabrics that hold sentimental value. Naomi’s gown was crafted from heavy embroidered lace that was originally meant for my wedding dress. For my second child, Nara, I used organdí fabric from Florence and a lace trim gifted from Spain. These gowns are incredibly special to me and hold a cherished place in my heart.

7. How would you describe your personal style? Does it influence your designs for Cuore Baby? My style is very specific—classic children’s wear with a twist, inspired by the old world but reinterpreted for the modern American market. I use the highest quality fabrics and classic silhouettes but avoid overly traditional elements like ruffled collars for boys or floral lace. My designs reflect my personal style, which is modern, elegant, and timeless, much like the fashion icons I admire.

8. Who are your style icons, both past and present, and how do they inspire your work for Cuore Baby? Carolina Herrera, with her impeccable taste and international success, is a major influence for me. Her timeless elegance inspires my approach to design. Olivia Palermo, with her refined and modern fashion sense, is another icon whose style aligns with my own. For baby clothing, of course, Cuore Baby is my favorite, as it embodies everything I believe children’s fashion should be.

cuore baby

9. What is your favorite place in the world? My atelier, where I create and find inspiration. My home, where I love and play with my husband and daughters. And Italy, where I travel to eat delicious food, visit family, and one day hope to retire.

10. Where do you envision Cuore Baby in five years? Any exciting plans or developments on the horizon? I see Cuore Baby expanding its presence in high-end boutiques around the world. We currently sell in several countries, including the United States, Canada, and various Latin American countries, but I want to reach even more markets. We’re also planning to expand our online sales beyond our website, Instagram, and Etsy. We recently showcased our Spring/Summer 2025 collection at The Children’s Show in New York. Next year, we’ll participate in shows in Italy and Spain. In the future, I might consider opening my own retail stores, but for now, with small children, it’s not the right time.

11. What message do you hope to convey through your brand? I want to leave the world more beautiful. Why should kids wear leggings and cartoon-printed T-shirts when they can be just as comfortable and look stunning in a cotton eyelet romper? Childhood is so fleeting, and all we’ll have left are those tiny, gorgeous clothes to cherish and maybe pass down to their own children one day.

12. What do you like about Junior Style? I love everything about Junior Style. The fact that it’s a media platform dedicated solely to kids’ fashion, which is quite rare, is something I truly appreciate. I value that we share a similar perspective on elevating children’s clothing and accessories to the level of high fashion—it’s crucial to me. I also admire your editorial work. Keep up the magnificent work, dear Alex!

Chit Chat with Emma Bobok, the winner of Junior Style Award.

Today at Chit Chat Tuesday, we have a very special guest… meet Emma Bobok, the 6-year-old fashionista from Italy. We had the pleasure of meeting Emma and her mom in New York. Emma, who was honored with the Junior Style Award for Best Kid Fashion Blogger, captivated everyone with her style and personality. Following her triumph on the runway, where she opened the kids’ fashion show at the Children’s Show event organized by Junior Style, we spent a delightful morning in Central Park. During our time together, we chatted about kids’ fashion, aesthetics, travels, and future plans. Here’s a glimpse into Emma’s vibrant world and the exciting journey she’s on.

Tell us your story. How did you start your blog?
I started an Instagram page for Emma when she was born, which began as a simple album. However, during the COVID period, I decided to revamp it entirely. I began sharing photos of Emma in various poses with a strong emphasis on her outfits. What started as a fun game—Emma striking poses and me capturing her moments—quickly turned into a beloved routine. Emma enjoyed seeing herself in the photos, and from there, our little project blossomed into something much more special!

Where do you get your inspiration for your styling?
Inspiration for me flows effortlessly. I stay up-to-date with the latest collections, and that’s where my ideas and creativity spark. Each new collection brings fresh perspectives and styles that fuel my imagination and keep my fashion sense vibrant and exciting.

Three words describing Emma.
Cool, funny, ready for everything.

It’s hard to pick just one, but we really love Gucci. It’s always relevant, high-quality, and sophisticated.

What do you think about social media?
Social media opens up a world of endless possibilities. How we harness those opportunities is entirely up to us, allowing each person to shape their own unique digital experience.

Which benefits has blogging brought you?
Blogging has opened doors to a diverse network of people within the children’s clothing industry and beyond. We’ve had the pleasure of meeting many creative individuals from all over the world, enriching our experience and broadening our horizons.

Blogging provides Emma with a fantastic opportunity to develop her skills in front of the camera, build resilience, and refine her sense of aesthetics and style. Regardless of the career path she chooses in the future, these experiences offer a solid foundation. Additionally, our blog offers just a small glimpse into her world through these curated squares, as we prioritize protecting her privacy and keep her daily life away from the public eye.

What does winning the Junior Style Awards mean to you?

Winning the Junior Style Awards is something I can’t fully put into words. Being recognized among thousands of cool and talented individuals as Best Kid Fashion Blogger, is profoundly meaningful. It’s an incredible honor to be acknowledged by such a reputable judging panel and our favorite platform. This award has given us a tremendous boost in confidence and motivation, inspiring us to push our creativity further and elevate our blog to new heights.

Can you share a memorable moment or experience you’ve had since starting your blog?
One memorable moment was when we began collaborating with CoccoleBimbi. We had the chance to meet the talented Cesare Morisco and his family during the first year of COVID. Despite everyone wearing masks, it was an incredibly special experience that left a lasting impression.

How do you balance blogging with your schoolwork and other activities?
We dedicate Saturdays and Sundays to content creation. Managing our time effectively and staying responsible are crucial for balancing all aspects of our busy schedule.

What advice would you give to other kids who want to start their own blog?
Treat everything you do with love, stay genuine, embrace new challenges, and keep a positive attitude.

How do you choose which brands or products to feature on your blog?
Choosing which brands or products to feature on our blog is a creative process that blends inspiration and collaboration. We curate our content based on the mood we want to capture, which helps us create a cohesive and engaging visual story. Additionally, we highlight brands we collaborate with, ensuring that our selections align with both our aesthetic vision and our partnerships. This approach allows us to showcase a diverse range of styles while staying true to our unique flair.

What has been the most challenging part of blogging for you?
Initially, I was very concerned about potential haters and negative comments, especially after seeing how they could affect other bloggers. I worried that such negativity could overshadow the hard work we put in. Fortunately, we’ve only received one negative comment, which we just laughed off. Nonetheless, it remains a significant concern as we navigate the blogging world.

Do you have any upcoming projects or collaborations you’re excited about?
I’m really looking forward to our trip to China in September. We’ll be shooting the new @raspberryplum collection there!

How do you stay updated with the latest trends in fashion and style?
I stay updated by actively following the latest collections and immersing myself in current trends. This involves keeping an eye on fashion shows, exploring new releases from top designers, and engaging with industry news. By staying connected to the pulse of the fashion world, I ensure that my content remains fresh, relevant, and in tune with the ever-evolving style landscape.

What is one thing you wish more people knew about blogging?
Blogging is indeed hard work, requiring a significant investment of time, resources, and effort. From conceptualizing content and capturing the perfect shots to editing and engaging with the audience, every aspect demands dedication. However, the rewards—seeing your vision come to life, connecting with readers, and achieving personal and professional growth—make all the hard work worthwhile.

How has blogging influenced your personal style or interests?
Blogging has opened doors to collaborations with numerous brands, providing us with access to a diverse array of clothing and accessories. This rich variety has not only enhanced our personal style but also allowed us to explore and experiment with different facets of fashion. Each new collaboration brings fresh opportunities and ideas, continually enriching our creative journey.

I love everything about Junior Style! From your published materials and the seamless organization of events like the Children Show runway and Junior Style Awards 24, to the incredible Aleksandra, who I absolutely adore.

This Tuesday, we have very special guests: Megan Hess, a renowned fashion illustrator whose work includes collaborations with the most desired fashion houses like Dior, Chanel, Cartier, Tiffany & Co., and many more, and Claris the Mouse. This interview carries a very personal note, as I am a big fan of Megan’s work. Claris the Mouse is beloved in our kids’ fashion community. All kids and parents who are interested in children’s fashion and aesthetic education have these books in their libraries. It is an absolute pleasure to enjoy the illustrations and follow the adventures of the little mouse, even if you are no longer seven years old. We chatted about dreams, careers in fashion, success recipes, and Claris’ new book releasing in October. We are also proud that Megan Hess and Claris are our honored judges at the Junior Style Awards.

JS: How did you become an illustrator?

Megan Hess: I always knew that I wanted to draw for a living but when I was growing up I had no idea that a Fashion Illustrator was an actual job! It was just always the thing I loved to do. I still feel incredibly lucky to do what I love as a profession.

I studied Graphic Design because it felt like a ‘real’ job in the art world, but really always wanted to be an illustrator – I just never knew back then that it was a possible career choice! After working as an Art Director in Ad agencies for several years I packed everything up and moved to London. It was in London that I worked in a million different creative jobs and in my final job there I realized that I had a burning desire to be an artist. At this time I’d become the Art Director for Liberty Department Store. Whilst I loved art-directing fashion I loved illustrating it more. I started to do very small illustrations for Liberty and from this art directors saw my work and little commissions began to follow. MY big break came when I illustrated the cover of SEX and THE CITY. Rom here I was commissioned by many of my dream clients, such as Prada, Fendi, Tiffany & Co, Louis Vuitton and Dior.

JS: Tell us about Claris. Where did it all start? Why did you choose a mouse as the character? What is Claris’ message?

Megan Hess: It all happened on a beautiful summer’s day when I was on the balcony at the Le Bristol Hotel sketching the whimsical buildings of Paris when something caught my eye. It was an adorable little mouse on a neighbouring building scurrying across the rooftops. I thought it was so wonderfully chic to live in Paris even if you were just a tiny little mouse! The message of Claris is about following your dreams and being brave enough (no matter how small you are) to transform the world around you. Every book has a lovely dose of fashion and an even bigger dose of kindness and compassion.

claris the mouse

JS: What is Claris’ next adventure?

Megan Hess: Claris’ next adventure is called Magnificent Mess! This story is set back in Paris and it features the incredible, beautiful and inspiring Eiffel Tower. Sometimes in life, you need to create an enormous mess to see something really wonderful on the other side, and that was the inspiration for this book. As always, there is so much great fashion, so many beautiful Parisian sites as well as so much heart and humour in this story. I’m really excited for it to come all around the world out this October.

JS: What do you think about children’s aesthetic education? Is it important?

Megan Hess: I think that someone’s personal style, whether you’re a child or an adult, is something that you should have fun with. It should be a reflection of your personality, how you’re feeling, something that is comfortable and feels good. It should be something that makes you feel your best self and I think fashion has that amazing power to do that for both children and adults. When kids are really young, they may not know what their sense of style is. They may not care and I think it’s important that kids are just kids. But when a child gets to an age or a stage with fashion and it’s something that they really enjoy and there’s a style that expresses who they are, I think that’s a really wonderful thing for them to have discovered.

claris the mouse

JS: To what do you attribute success?

Megan Hess: I think any success that I have had in my career has really come down to the fact that I truly love what I do.  I’ve always really leaned into the aspects of my career that I find the most joyful, and I feel like the areas that you really put that love and effort into are the areas that really grow and ultimately become successful. I also think there’s something infectious about creating something that feels special. If you truly feel that magic when you’re creating something, chances are other people are going to feel that way when they see it or read it or interact with it. Any success that I have had has really been born from any failures that I have had. This was something that I learned very early on, that failing, as devastating as it can be, is actually the one thing that propels you forward the fastest to actually succeed!

JS: There are a lot of illustrators, but Megan Hess is the brand now. What is the secret?

Megan Hess: In the very beginning of my career I never set out to actually have a brand. I was just someone who loved drawing and bit by bit and step-by-step that built a career for me. I’ve always focused my career on looking forward, not on looking back and not looking to the side, I am immensely inspired by lots of other creative people, but I’ve always gone back to a core value of drawing and creating what feels magical to me. It’s always been about trusting and following my gut, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t but most importantly it’s always authentic to me and to what I’m inspired by as an artist.

Megan Hess

JS: How do you manage to juggle being a super mom and businesswoman?

Megan Hess: Honestly, I just do my best and it’s a day-to-day challenge to make everything work. Ultimately, I love my family and I love being a mum. I also see my work as an artist and an author as something that is very much part of who I am and it’s very much part of my happiness as a person. I’ve never felt the need to ever have to choose between being a mum, and having my career. It’s not always easy, but I think following my heart and always leaning into the things that I love brings me the most joy to both myself and my family. I also see it as a very important role as a parent to show my kids that you should always follow your heart and passion in life.

JS: What advice would you give to anyone who would like to pursue a career in fashion?

Megan Hess: My advice to anyone wanting to pursue a career in anything that they’re passionate about is to go for it! There are so many different jobs and career paths within fashion, I think it’s just a matter of getting your foot in the door and then really discovering which direction you enjoy most and what you’re actually best at. I always advise anyone to really get that first bit of experience. It may be unpaid work, but it is absolutely invaluable to be able to see the working operations of an actual fashion business and to really immerse yourself amongst other creatives and really understand how the process works. Ultimately, no matter what you are passionate about doing, my advice is to never give up. One of my favorite quotes is: those who failed, didn’t realize how close they were to success before they gave up.

JS: Who is your fashion icon, past or present?

Megan Hess: I have two iconic women for this answer and I’ve written books about both of them. One is Audrey Hepburn and the other is Grace Kelly. Both women were incredibly iconic in their careers and they were so original in their look and their style. Both were incredible actresses in their time, and they’re still today considered the most iconic and fashionable women that ever graced our screens. I always say: try and find a bad picture of Audrey or Grace – you won’t find one!

megan hess grace kelly audrey hupburn

JS: What inspires you?

Megan Hess: I am incredibly inspired by so many things. everything from music to film, perfume, travel, food, other artists – just everything to me is an opportunity to be a sponge and to be inspired by it. I think I’m most inspired when I travel. I love immersing myself in architecture and the sounds and smells of other countries and places. I also love to people watch and sketch in cafes – just dreaming and being inspired by everyday life.

JS: What are your favorite cultural magazines or publications? What about podcasts?

Megan Hess: My favorite magazines are actually interior magazines. I think there’s something just very escapism and relaxing about them. It’s a little bit outside of what I do so I think there’s an element of stepping out of my creative world and looking into someone else’s. And my favorite interior magazine is World of Interiors. I love the scope of interiors that they feature, from modern interiors to ruins in 18th century castles – just beautiful. My favorite podcast is The Huberman Lab. It’s not really anything creative but it’s fascinating and I find it very, very interesting to know more about the mind and the brain.

JS: Where is your favourite place in the world?

Megan Hess: My favorite place is always where my husband and kids are.

But my favorite place to visit is definitely Paris. There’s just something about Paris that is endlessly inspiring and no matter how many times I visit (and I do go to Paris a lot) I never run out of things that I want to do. I always have things left on my list that I didn’t quite get to and I always just feel so incredibly inspired. There’s a certain magic that is only found in Paris. It’s the architecture, the food, the people, the street style and the music. I’ve written many books about Paris and my children’s series, Claris, is of course set in Paris. It just has so many beautiful elements and charming details that are so unique to the city.

Of all the places in the world that I’ve traveled to, none inspire me more than Paris.

This Tuesday, we had the opportunity to catch up and chat with the dynamic duo behind TWIMC, a distinguished brand specializing in kids’, teens’, and adults’ footwear and accessories. We are delighted to introduce Zeynep Atınç and Arzu Tabakoğlu, the co-founders who bring a wealth of experience and passion to the table.

TWIMC shoes brand

www.shoptwimc.com

Arzu & Zeynep:

Zeynep Atınç holds a Ph.D. in Painting and has extensive experience in the footwear industry, having worked with leading brands in Istanbul. Her artistic vision and industry expertise are pivotal to the brand’s unique aesthetic.

Arzu Tabakoğlu boasts a degree in Advertising & Public Relations, with a strong background in brand management and corporate communication. Her strategic approach and creative flair ensure the brand’s message is communicated effectively.

twimc founders

Together, they founded TWIMC in 2022 with a mission to create quality heirloom pieces that blend sustainability and timeless design. Their combined talents and dedication have quickly made TWIMC a standout in the footwear and accessories market.

JS:  Tell us about your brand. What sets it apart in the world of kids’ fashion?

Arzu&Zeynep: TWIMC stands out in kids’ fashion by celebrating children’s individuality and freedom to make mistakes. We draw inspiration from philosophy, art, and children’s creativity to create pieces that are both meaningful and environmentally responsible. Our designs feature unique elements like deliberately uneven red stitching and removable slogans, emphasizing the importance of embracing imperfections and expressing individuality. We focus on craftsmanship, meticulously handling each shoe with care to ensure quality and durability. Our goal is to create pieces that can be cherished and passed down through generations.

twimc

JS: What about the name and logo?

Arzu&Zeynep: We wanted it specifically to be unusual. The name TWIMC stands for “To Whom It May Concern,” suggesting a personalized message or an open letter to the world. This reflects our belief that each piece we create is unique and meaningful, intended for someone special.

Our logo, with its distinct fonts and varied letter designs, embodies this philosophy. Each letter is different from the others, representing the individuality and uniqueness of every person. Just as all individuals are special, we wanted each letter in our logo to be special too. This creative approach aligns with our mission to blend sustainability and timeless design in every heirloom piece we craft.

JS: Tell us your story, how it all started?

Arzu&Zeynep: We founded TWIMC in 2022, united by a deep passion for creating sustainable, high-quality footwear and bags that resonate with both children and parents alike. Our journey began with a realization of the gap in children’s fashion—while there were many stylish options, few embodied values of sustainability and individuality. Driven by this insight, we set out to establish TWIMC, a brand that not only prioritizes aesthetics but also champions craftsmanship and environmental responsibility.

Zeynep: My background in the footwear industry and owning my own brand and shop provided invaluable experience, guiding our meticulous approach to crafting each shoe with care and attention to detail.

Arzu: I expertise in brand management and communication has been instrumental in shaping TWIMC’s identity, ensuring that every piece we create tells a meaningful story. We believe in celebrating children’s individuality and freedom to express themselves through fashion that encourages creativity and self-confidence.

Arzu&Zeynep: At TWIMC, our goal goes beyond creating fashionable items; we aim to craft heirloom pieces that can be cherished and passed down through generations. Each product embodies our commitment to quality and sustainability, reflecting our belief that good design should stand the test of time.

TWIMC shoes brand

JS: Where do you usually source your design inspiration? Are there specific themes or elements that consistently influence your creations.

Arzu&Zeynep: Our design inspiration comes from a variety of sources, including philosophy, art, and the boundless creativity of children. We consistently incorporate themes of individuality, freedom to make mistakes, and vibrant creativity into our collections. Elements like bold colors, unique stitching, and meaningful slogans are central to our designs.

Arzu: Our logo, designed by my 7-year-old son, and our distinct font choices further embody our commitment to celebrating uniqueness.

JS: What motivated you to start designing specifically for children? Are there unique challenges or joys in working with children’s fashion?

Arzu&Zeynep: We were motivated by the desire to create heirloom-quality pieces that celebrate children’s individuality and creativity. Designing for children presents unique challenges, such as ensuring durability and comfort, but it also brings immense joy. Seeing children express themselves and enjoy our designs is incredibly rewarding. One significant challenge we encountered was realizing the need to add larger sizes to our collection as children’s feet continued to grow.

twimc

JS: Can you tell us about a favorite piece from your brand?

Arzu&Zeynep: One of our favorite pieces from TWIMC is our boot made with rub-off leather, crafted entirely by hand through an artisanal process. This unique boot showcases our commitment to quality and craftsmanship, with each pair embodying a blend of traditional techniques and contemporary design. It’s a piece that truly embodies our brand’s ethos of quality and sustainability. The removable slogans on our footwear offer a unique form of expression, allowing wearers to personalize their style and convey their individuality. We love this detail that encourages personal expression and creativity. Additionally, the versatile straps of our bags are also among our favorites.

JS: How would you describe your personal style? Does it influence your designs for your brand?

Arzu&Zeynep: Our personal style is a blend of artistic rebellion and timeless elegance. We are passionate creators who draw inspiration from diverse sources, from vintage aesthetics to modern architecture. Our designs are unique, stylish, and practical, using luxurious materials and custom details to add a handcrafted touch to each collection. We focus on creating pieces that resonate with both individuality and sophistication, aiming to make a lasting impact in the world of fashion.

TWIMC shoes brand

JS: Who are your style icons, both past and present, and how do they inspire your work for your brand?

Zeynep: I am inspired by icons who embody a rebellious and artistic spirit, such as David Bowie and Vivienne Westwood. Their fearless approach to fashion and creativity resonates with us and influences our designs. We usually focus on creating pieces that are timeless and expressive.

Arzu: My style icons are my children. Their colorful world and perspective on life are my greatest sources of inspiration.

JS: What is your favorite place in the world?

Arzu&Zeynep: Our favorite place in the world isn’t a specific location—it’s the entirety of this beautiful planet. We believe there are no boundaries or separations; there is only this interconnected Earth that we all call home. Every corner of our planet, from its vibrant cities to its remote wilderness, holds a unique beauty and significance.

Zeynep: It’s in this diversity that I find endless inspiration for my designs—a reflection of the rich tapestry of life that surrounds us.

TWIMC shoes brand

JS: Where do you envision TWIMC brand in five years? Any exciting plans or developments on the horizon for the brand? Projects?

Arzu&Zeynep: In five years, we envision TWIMC as a leading brand in children’s fashion, known for our commitment to quality, sustainability, and creativity. We plan to expand our collection to include more textile products and accessories, and we are excited about collaborating on special projects that align with our brand’s philosophy.

twimc

JS: What message do you hope to convey through your brand?

Arzu&Zeynep: Through TWIMC, we hope to convey the message that fashion can be both meaningful and environmentally responsible. We want to encourage children to embrace their individuality, make mistakes, and see beauty in their uniqueness.

TWIMC shoes brand

JS: How do you view social media, especially platforms like Instagram, in the context of your brand? Is it a source of love, hate, or a mix of both? Could you elaborate on your perspective?

Arzu&Zeynep: We view social media as a powerful tool for connecting with our audience and sharing our brand’s story. Platforms like Instagram allow us to showcase our designs, engage with customers, and receive valuable feedback. While it can be challenging to stand out in a crowded space, we embrace the opportunities social media offers to build a community around our brand and share our philosophy with a wider audience.

Renowned kids’ fashion footwear mogul Falc celebrates a milestone anniversary this year, marking 50 years of dedication to keeping children well and happy. It’s often said that no manual can truly guide you on being good parents; at the heart of it, all we want is to ensure our children’s well-being and happiness. And that’s precisely what Falc aims to achieve.

naturino

For fifty years, Falc, along with its team of experts, has been committed to developing safe and comfortable shoes, offering only the best for your children. Their focus extends beyond technical excellence to encompass stylish design, understanding that kids are fashion-conscious and have discerning tastes.

Falc’s mission is to envision the best for your children and make it a reality every day—just like you. Join us as we dive into an exclusive interview with Falc CEO Salina Ferretti, where we explore the secrets behind their enduring success, the inspirations for their designs, and their vision for the future of children’s fashion.

salina ferretti

Falc is renowned in the children’s fashion industry. What sets your brands apart and makes them so special?

Our brands, Naturino and Falcotto, are famous for their Italian fashion designs and exceptional quality. We collaborate with pediatricians to ensure the best shoe constructions, making us an undisputed leader in children’s footwear for generations.

naturino

What would you say is the secret behind Falc’s enduring success and popularity?

Falc has an incredible international team that works together with dedication and passion. This, combined with our talented designers and continuous innovation, positions us as a company ready for the future.

What inspires the designs and collections at Falc brands each season?

Each season, our team of designers draws inspiration from exotic corners of the world and the streets of major fashion capitals. We always choose themes that excite us the most, bringing color and fun to our collections.

What advice would you give to young entrepreneurs looking to start a career in children’s fashion?

We definitely recommend being original and choosing a specific market to target, as fashion trends can vary greatly from one country to another.

How do you envision the future of the retail and fashion market, particularly in light of recent trends and changes?

We believe that modern specialty stores and fashion boutiques will become stronger within their local communities, while successful e-tailers will continue to grow.

What are your thoughts on physical events and networking versus online platforms?

Nothing beats a physical event for networking and meeting new customers or brands. However, online platforms are excellent tools for modern support.

What’s your favorite shoe from the upcoming collection?

One of our favorite shoes for next season is the Naturino Pinn, a fun sneaker available in various colors, prints, and materials. From glitter to rainbow shades, the selection is endless.

How do you see the kids’ fashion market evolving in the next five years?

The children’s fashion market is strongly influenced by streetwear and comfort. However, we believe that dressing up for special occasions will become more important, and the demand for elegance will increase.

What do you think is the most effective marketing tool today?

The most effective marketing tool today is undoubtedly social media, as it allows for direct engagement with our customers and the ability to showcase our latest collections in real-time.

naturino

You will be showcasing the new SS25 collection at the Children’s Show in New York. Do you find the US kids’ fashion market differs significantly from the European market?

Yes, the two markets differ quite a lot. The collections are different since the style priorities are not the same. Additionally, the distribution and sales methods are very specific. In Europe, the markets are unique and varied, with many fashion capitals. Similarly, in the USA, each region has different trends and priorities.
